Are you a group of four, six, or simply hungry for many things at once? Then Asian starters in Leipzig are exactly your format: lots of small plates in the middle of the table, everyone tries everything. At Mami Viet on Merseburger Str. 107 in Leipzig-Lindenau, starters begin at 6 € – and there is free parking right outside the door.
The big advantage over “everyone orders their own main course”: nobody has to commit. If you like summer rolls, go for the fresh ones; if you want crunch, take the spring rolls; and edamame ends up on every table anyway. In this article we show you which starters we serve, what they cost, and how much you should order for 2, 4 or 6 people so that everyone is full and nothing goes to waste.
In Vietnamese and Asian food culture, sharing is not a trend – it is the default. Dishes go into the middle, everyone helps themselves, and the meal turns into a conversation all by itself. That is exactly why starters to share work so well for groups of friends, colleagues after work, or a relaxed date. What menus today call sharing food in Leipzig is simply our normal way of eating together.
Three reasons it pays off:
There is another practical point: starters come out of the kitchen faster than large main courses. If you arrive after work and everyone wants something on the table immediately, a sharing round is the quickest way to get there.
This is our complete starters list – all prices in euros, and you will find everything on our menu as well:
If you cannot decide, the Mixed Starter Platter at 14 € is the best way in: a selection on one plate, ideal as the foundation for the middle of the table. Around it you then order two or three individual plates to taste.
A word on the classics: summer rolls are the fresh version in rice paper, unfried and light – good for anyone who does not want it too heavy. Spring rolls are the crispy faction, deep-fried and golden brown. If you are looking for gyoza in Leipzig, you will find them here too: the Japanese dumplings cost 6 €, just like the Dumplings Mix. Edamame are the green soybeans for nibbling on the side. If you want to know the difference between the rolls in detail, you will find it in our article Summer Rolls vs. Spring Rolls.

The most common question at the table: “Will that be enough?” Here are three fully calculated suggestions that work well in practice. Rule of thumb: count on around 1.5 starter plates per person if the starters are meant to be the main event.
Table for 2 – the quick after-work plate: 18 €
That comes to 18 € for two people, so 9 € per head. Fresh, crispy and something to nibble on – a good base if you want to share a main course afterwards.
Table for 4 – the classic round: 40 €
Together 40 €, which is exactly 10 € per person. The mixed platter forms the centre, the salad adds freshness.
Table for 6 – when everything has to be tried: 61 €
That is 61 € for six people, around 10 € per head – and with it, practically the entire starters list is on the table. For larger groups it is worth calling ahead on 0341 4925 2244 so a suitable table is ready – just say how many of you there are and whether you would like to sit indoors or in the garden.
By the way: if you order through our website, an order value of 30 €, 50 €, 70 € or 100 € earns you a small extra depending on the tier, for example mini spring rolls or edamame. With a sharing round, that threshold is reached quickly.
A great many of our guests eat vegetarian – and the starters list is almost ideal for that. Edamame are vegetarian by nature, and for summer rolls, spring rolls, Mamis Glück, gyoza and the Dumplings Mix a vegetarian version is possible. Just let us know when you order.
Vegetarian round for 4 – 36 €:
36 € for four people, so 9 € per head – completely without meat or fish and still six different plates. The Suppe ala Mami at 6 € or the Mami green Salat at 8 € go well with it. If somebody in the group can’t tolerate something, just tell us when you order – our team will help you choose. More on the topic in our article Eating vegetarian in Leipzig.
Starters do not have to stand alone. If you want to extend the round, you have several options:
Sushi to share in particular is a lovely addition: a few maki and inside out rolls in the middle and you have a second round, without anyone having to order a full main course. If you prefer a fixed set, the menu offers sushi set menus from 12 € – menus 1 and 2 are vegetarian.

Small plates and a good drink belong together. That is exactly what our happy hour is for: daily from 17:00–18:30 and from 20:30–22:00, drinks from 5 € – cocktails, wine, longdrinks, aperitifs and spritz.
The routine many guests enjoy: you arrive around 17:30, order a round of starters for the middle of the table and the first drinks at happy hour prices. By the time everything is on the table, the evening is already rolling. If you want to raise a glass again later, the second happy hour window opens at 20:30.
If you would rather stay alcohol-free: our homemade drinks all cost 6 €, for example Lemongrass, Ginger Lemon, Maracuja or Mango Lassi. More on that in our article Cocktails & happy hour in the garden.
You can sit indoors or outdoors: we have two outdoor areas – the terrace facing Merseburger Straße and the quiet backyard garden with lanterns. Just mention your preference when you reserve.
If you come at lunchtime, the best combination is our lunch menu: daily 11:00–14:00, a main course for 10 € including mini spring rolls. You will find the current dishes on our menu.
