Mami Viet has two areas that work well for celebrations. The indoor space is finished in warm wood, with lanterns, a brick wall and cosy lighting – exactly right in winter, when it gets dark early. If you’re celebrating in summer or on a mild evening, you can move out into the garden: a quiet backyard with trees and lanterns where you forget the street entirely.

Drinks and happy hour for the after-work part

Four things that make planning easier

A few simple agreements keep the evening relaxed:

• Book early. Between mid-November and Christmas, evenings are tight everywhere in Leipzig. Call in late summer or early autumn and you’ll get the date you want.
• Choose your time deliberately. A 5 p.m. start falls into happy hour and leaves you plenty of time; a later start works better if everyone is coming straight from work.
• Tell us numbers early – and any changes too. If two more or two fewer people come, just let us know. Then the table plan works out.
• Talk about vegetarians and allergies in advance. Neither is a problem here, but it’s quicker if we know beforehand.
